One day I drove out to the country farm where I grew up. I had this gentle nudge from the Lord that there was something I needed to see. Little did I know it would be an avalanche of revelation for me. As I walked, tears began to flow. It was a returning to my roots, a reckoning time. I have been on a discovery of my true identity—my destiny. God’s provision was there for me through my earthly father and mother. I grew up under the farmer’s protection. God is patient with us to understand the fullness of his grace.
I had a dream of a painting one night in 2012, and the name came with it - “40 Pas-ture Keepers.” It was forty cows with a background of many colors. I prayed into the dream, and I looked up what the spiritual meaning was. This is what I believe it meant, the cows were keeping watch over that which was mine until I got an understanding of who I am in Christ.’
What was mine to get was my true identity — who I am because God calls me his own. It is not because of anything I do or have done, but because He loves me. My truest self is full of color and grounded by the salt of the earth. I am salt and light.
It seems simple to realize our identity. However, the breaking off of strongholds that holds us back is a monumental victory in the course of life. It is a continual process of stay-ing focused on the love of Jesus while guarding our hearts from the wiles of the enemy. The things that can distract us from our very purpose of loving well.
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness,
how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the
light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead
they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” Matthew 5:15-16
I pondered this painting again during a time soaking in His presence and I literally felt the tangible presence of His love all over me. I realized the cows were coming out of the red watching over me in the love of God. The overwhelming power of His love is so simple but so hard to recognize sometimes. It is the single most important thing to get in this life - the simple purity of His love for us. A friend in Christ recently saw this painting and after telling her the story she said you should name this “Holy Cow”. I now realize it took 6 years for me to get the meaning of this dream - 6 means to toil or labor; wrestling with the carnal and spiritual natures; coming together of these states in harmony.
