The battlefield of the mind wages war on the inner peace of the soul. Victory lies with the one who is fed the most: the soul in peace, or the soul at war. I have come to realize in the journey of life, we always have a choice of what our attitude will be. We cannot control what comes our way, but we can determine our response. This painting came from such a battle in my life. I had a dream of this painting. I woke up and sketched it out in the middle of the night, and the next morning I painted what I had dreamed. Upon later reflection of this piece, I wrote this poem about how God can give us peace in the middle of the storm.
“Morning Light”
The morning light how beautiful is its flicker,
The calming of the crickets against the melody of the dove.
What a refuge, what a place of rest.
The rest we find in the presence of God’s hand
Gives love to others we pass each day.
Life is given from the cool water’s edge,
Comfort is given from the warm blanket of His presence.
Peace is given in a moment of life held by grace.
And then along comes the enemy bringing bitter waters.
If we choose to drink the poison, our hearts implode.
But if we refuse the bitter weed and wait upon the Lord,
Our strength is renewed, we soar on the backs of the eagle’s wings.
Only in His presence can we see so clearly,
Through His eyes of living water do we see the world of love.
We can let the heart be bitter or better;
The choice is always ours to be had.
“Then the Lord answered me and said, “Write down the special dream
on stone so that one may read it in a hurry. For it is not yet time for it
to come true. The time is coming in a hurry, and it will come true. If you
think it is slow in coming, wait for it. For it will happen for sure, and it
will not wait.” Habakkuk 2:2-4 NLV.
