One day I was looking out at my pasture as I was having my quiet time with the Lord, and I saw the sunlight on this one particular tree. I felt the Lord nudging my heart to pay attention to it. I drew it in my journal and returned to it later. As I was pondering what it could mean, all of sudden these words dropped in my Spirit.
The one whose light shines the brightest can give way to the
lure of the darkness if they don’t keep their face turned toward
the source of all light. The longer we look into the lure of
darkness, the sooner we become held captive by the root of sin.
But if we keep focused on the true light (Jesus), our roots are established in good soil and life is given in growth.
The bright yellow tree is the one who has focused on Jesus, is illuminated in all parts of its life, and its roots grow deep in good soil. The green in the tree is symbolic of growth. The orange trees are symbolic of those who once were exuberant for the Lord but have al-lowed their eyes to gaze upon the interesting patterns in the dark. The sparkles and the prett-colors are alluring and once we get caught up in the root of sin, those issues began to hold us captive.
We are always focused on the object in sight. We either see the Lord or the lure of the dark side. The good news is that we may look this way and that, we may waver from the path, but all we have to do is set our eyes to look into His beautiful face, and we are in the light again. We can perch ourselves on a limb in the tree to rest in His presence as we gaze through His eyes at the world before us. Our position is established, and we are more equipped to pray for His Kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven.
My friend Dianne Daniels bought this painting and gave it to our pastor, Chris Liotta, at Rivergate Church in Bryan, Texas.
