I painted this in a church service in Magnolia, Texas. I have had visions of Jesus in the past with color all around Him and with all colors inside Him. I sometimes see people as individual colors, as if each spirit is a different color of the rainbow, as jewels in His crown. One is blue, one is red, and so on. My friend Omar Vigil shared this scripture with me when I told him what I saw.
“The Lord their God will save his people in that day, as a Shepherd caring for his sheep. They shall shine in his land as glittering jewels in a crown. How wonderful and beau-tiful all shall be! The abundance of grain and grapes will make the young men and girls flourish; they will be radiant with health and happiness.” Zechariah 9:16,17 LB
I imagine all the colors around Jesus as an extension of His love to all people groups — we are all loved by Him. He is reaching out to us in the world, pulling us and drawing us to Him, and He often uses us to reach out to those around us. I believe the painting of Jesus’ face in color is of us abiding in Him, resting in His presence, and taking on His likeness. The pastor of the church, Richie Clark, used the piece as an example of God in living color. He said he heard the voice of God say that most people know Him as a black-and-white God but that He is really a God of living color. I love that!
